Facial lipofilling
The grafting of the patient's fat cells into the face is called facial lipofilling. It can be performed for aesthetic purposes, to produce an increase in volume or for reconstructive purposes to correct defects resulting from trauma or previous surgery.
There are multiple indications to perform this procedure, including: need for an increase in the volume of facial fat (lips and cheekbones), facial lipodystrophy.Carrying out the facial lipofilling technique consists of three steps: the first is obtaining the patient's fat cells, the second is the special treatment of said cells and, finally, the grafting of the fat cells in the anatomical area to be treated.
Obtaining the fat cells is done through small liposuction with special cannulas in an area where there are abundant fat cells, such as the abdomen or hips.
The cells obtained are subjected to a preparation process (centrifugation or Puregraft) to select only those that are viable.
Finally, the cells are grafted into the area to be treated, making a minimal incision, with the help of small cannulas designed especially for this type of procedures.Lipofilling or lipotransfer, in addition to being an intervention in itself, is often the ideal complement to other facial interventions such as lifting or blepharoplasty. It is used especially when volume needs to be added to areas that have lost part or all of their fat as a result of aging. Adding fat in certain areas has a great rejuvenating effect.
